What is LGBTQ+ Specialized Primary Care?

At CrofootMD, we practice healthcare with a specialized focus to meet the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other gender and/or sexual minority individuals. Our providers and healthcare team aim to address unique health concerns, challenges, and disparities faced by LGBTQ+ people ensuring they receive culturally competent, respectful, and inclusive care.

In 1985, Dr. Crofoot helped establish Houston’s first healthcare community-based organization that focused on HIV called the Montrose Clinic (better known today as Legacy Community Health).

Our success to LGBTQ+ Focused Healthcare includes:

  • Cultural Competence: Our providers and healthcare team understand the diverse identities and experiences with the LGBTQ+ community including sexual orientation, gender identity, and the impact of social determinants of health such as discrimination and stigma.

  • Inclusive Practice: We provide an environment that is welcoming and inclusive for LGBTQ+ patients including using gender-affirming language and respecting preferred names & pronouns.

  • Comprehensive Care: Our providers address a wide range of health needs specific to LGBTQ+ indiviuals including primary care, sexual health, reproductive health, hormone therapy, screening & testing, and treatment & prevention.

  • Affirmative Care: Our providers affirm and support LGBTQ+ identities and experiences by providing access to supportive resources such as counseling, support, and referrals to LGBTQ+ community partners.

Dr. Crofoot has been practicing medicine for over 50 years with plans to continue providing care for many years to come.
