Dr. Gordon Crofoot is a highly respected Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease specialist with over 40 years of experience in HIV/AIDS care, research, and advocacy. Based in Houston, Texas, he has dedicated his career to advancing healthcare access and treatment for the general LGBTQIA+ & marginalized communities.
A graduate of Michigan State University, Dr. Crofoot earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine. In 1998, he became Medical Director at the Montrose Clinic (now Legacy Community Health Services), where he played a pivotal role in developing the Ryan White Title 1 HIV treatment program for uninsured patients and expanding the Next Step program for newly diagnosed individuals.
Beyond clinical care, Dr. Crofoot has been a leader in global health initiatives. In 2006, he founded Brazos Abiertos, 501c3, (Fundación BAI AC) in Yucatán, Mexico, establishing the first HIV testing and education programs in Mayan villages and improving HIV care access in the region. His research contributions are extensive, serving as Principal Investigator for over 200 clinical trials and publishing more than 150 articles in medical journals.
Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his compassionate patient care and humanitarian work, earning multiple accolades, including the Houston Black Tie Dinner Humanitarian Service Award, AIDS Foundation Houston Shelby Hodge Vision Award, and HGLPC Humanitarian Award. From 2009 to 2024, he was voted Houston’s top doctor by OutSmart Magazine readers.
Dr. Crofoot remains at the forefront of infectious disease research, advocacy, and patient-centered care, committed to improving health equity and advancing medical innovation.

I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Biochemistry, earned my medical degree from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, and completed my residency in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
I love being able to treat a diverse population of patients over a long time.
I enjoy snorkeling and traveling
I have two children under 5 years old. I also used to breed Doberman Pinschers.
